these days with baby zee.

happy friday before a long holiday weekend! aren’t these the best kinds of fridays? i really think they have to be. also, happy first day of july! did you hear me? JULY. what the actual.

i’m writing this in the car on the way to a cabin for the weekend. Amelia just upchucked a little (update: she upchucked twice within the first hour of the drive) so we made a nice little gas station pitstop and now she’s riding in a front-facing car seat for the first time ever. it was very unceremonious.

and with that fun piece of info, please to enjoy my latest belly photo and fun, necessary facts about this pregnancy. have a fabulous 4th of july everyone!

how far along: 24 weeks. (i’m on the every month update plan for now but will get more frequent after 32 weeks.)

i’m feeling: honestly pretty great.i have some round ligament pain (for those of you who are like, wtf is that, it basically means the muscles around your pelvis are stretching and it feels like you’ve been kicked in the crotch by someone for a while…every day), but still have great energy and i even golfed 9 holes walking last night!

total weight gain: 14 pounds. like i said last update, i was at about 12 pounds gained at 24 weeks. so i’m not too far ahead of where i was last time anymore. i’ve definitely been feeling more full these days so that might have something to do with it.

baby zee’s size: this week, baby is the size of an ear of corn. which is very appropriate for 4th of july weekend!

this week: i had my 1-hour glucose test…and failed. it’s like the worst dejavu ever. i failed my 1-hour last time too and had to take the 3-hour test and i swear to you, it was more unpleasant than giving birth. so i’m a little salty about the whole thing. i’m pretty confident that i do not have gestational diabetes so it’s that much more annoying.

maternity clothes: i broke down and grabbed a few dresses during a huge old navy sale and it was so worth it. i spent $75 on four dresses and found the holy grail of maternity dresses in the process. take note: old navy maternity is the best, bar none.

sleep: still pretty okay. the round ligament pain gets worse when i’m laying down, so that’s no fun, but once i’m asleep, all is well.

best moment this week: not my appointment…probably watching Amelia play with her baby doll and feeling really awesome about how she’s going to do with another sibling around the house.

movement: slowly getting stronger and more frequent. baby zee seems to be a jumper or a boxer. lots of jabs this time around.

food cravings: malts. why? it’s so weird.

food aversions: i get full after about 8 bites of anything so that’s not cool.

belly button in or out: it’s basically flat now.

looking forward to: spending the weekend with the family at the cabin…we might try to get out once more before october but either way i want to enjoy this time together before we grow by a person.

these days with baby zee.

hello again! i know what you’re thinking. two posts in a week? who are you? what have you done with erin? you guys, i don’t know where it came from, but the writing bug hit me this week, and even if the creativity bug hasn’t caught up yet, at least i’m writing! [edit: oh wait, i never posted this on friday so i guess i’m the same old erin. continue on with your lives.]

we’ve just been over here enjoying the gorgeous weather minnesota decided to give us, eating all the smoothies and freezie pops we can get our hands on (we being Amelia and me), and hanging out with dad as much as we can. it’s been a pretty great start to summer, i must say.

we had our ultrasound this week, which was great [sidebar, we are not finding out the gender of the baby, just like we didn’t with Amelia. it just seemed fun to do it again, and everything we have for the first month or so is already gender neutral, so no worries there. i know some of you think we’re crazy, and some of you think that’s awesome, and that’s totally how parenting in general is, so everything is as it should be!]. just because we’re cool, Mister Man and i had my mom watch Amelia so we could enjoy the appointment, and then we went out to a nice lunch to celebrate our anniversary. yes, we have reached the point where a weekday lunch is sufficient to celebrate our love for each other. but it was a REALLY good lunch, so it totally was romantic and awesome.

[please excuse the giant pile of clothes.]

how far along: 20 weeks. (looks i’m on the every month update plan for now…)

i’m feeling: pretty dang great! i’ve started to work out again, my energy lasts all the way until a fairly reasonable bedtime, and i can (mostly) keep up with little miss Amelia. i’m even playing golf in my work league this summer (although not very well) it’s wonderful to feel wonderful instead of crappy. we’re all very much happier in our house because of it.

total weight gain: 11 pounds. i looked back at my old updates to see where i’m at in comparison to my last pregnancy. apparently i was at about 12 pounds gained at 24 weeks. so with this amount at 20 weeks, i’m about a month ahead of where i was last time. this is probably due to more fluid retention because HOLY FOOT SWELLING the other day. it could definitely also be due to the mass amounts of snyder’s pretzel bites and freezies that i’ve eaten on a very regular basis in the last month. it’s anyone’s guess really. the last few days i haven’t felt as hungry as i have been the last month, so i think the crazy snacking might be tapering off soon. i’m guessing that my total gain for this pregnancy will be around the 32 pound mark (i was at 27 last time).

baby zee’s size: this week, baby is the size of a banana (10.5 oz. and 6.5 in.). i definitely can tell that the baby is getting bigger. my belly took a little break in the growth department, meaning it didn’t get TOO much bigger in the last few weeks, but it’s definitely more full of baby. does that make any sense? basically it’s just great that i’m not inflating at the rate i was the last two months.

this week: we got to see our little peanut at our ultrasound yesterday, and it was awesome. everything looked a-okay with baby, and it’s so much fun to get to see them wiggle around, and that profile! stop it! it’s too cute!

maternity clothes: hooooo boy. yes. i got a maternity stitchfix the other day, but turns out i’m super cheap and the items were just a bit too far out of my price range. i did keep one shirt, which my credit paid for, and it’s awesome (all the clothes were awesome waaaah) but i am still in desperate need of some more. thinking that next week i might try the maternity consignment place near me to see if i have any luck! also, let me just say this: i’m gonna need some new bras, which did not happen to me last time. ugh, bigger boobs are not what i needed out of this pregnancy!

sleep: surprisingly, a whole lot better in the last month. i’m still waking up around once a night, but i’m sleeping really well when i am asleep. it’s been a very refreshing experience, and i’m trying to take advantage of it as much as my night owl self will let me.

best moment this week: seeing the babe!

movement: yes! i started feeling little movements around week 18, and they have been getting progressively stronger and more noticeable. i started feeling Amelia so early, and she was very active and strong from the start, so it’s been a little odd to have a less intense movement experience this time around. but every morning and night i get little kicks and punches to remind me that baby’s there. and we did see during the ultrasound that this baby is also very active, so i’m getting ready to feel stuff all the time!

food cravings: see above re: pretzel bites and freezies. also, i had the BIGGEST craving for a malt the other night. i didn’t do anything about it because i was at home and it was 9:30pm, but man was that real. probably going to need to remedy that soon…

food aversions: nothing too crazy, but it’s been really tough to choke down my veggies. which is strange, because i really like vegetables. the “earthiness” of them just puts me off a bit right now. hoping that’ll go away at some point.

belly button in or out: i’m saying it’s still in, but really it’s probably closer to flat?

looking forward to: getting this belly out in the sun a little more now that it’s pool season. also, we’re going to start brainstorming names here soon, which is always a good time!

did i mention that i’m tired?

just popping in to say a quick hello and how are you!

also, i have a question for all you bloggers out there who solo parent and somehow find the energy to blog: how much do you need to spend on coffee every month to keep going? because between work and the child and the house, i’m over here like, “lord help me, i have no extra energy left with which to think of, let alone write, a blog post.” i am in awe of you all.

so yea, we’re surviving over here with no Mister Man, but we don’t like it. Amelia sleeps worse, i sleep worse. i’m tired, she gets sick of being around me all the time. (the girl is a people person, she really thrives when she’s around more than one person. if you’ve ever been lucky enough to see her out to eat, you know what i mean.) did i already mention that i’m tired? because i’m tired.

we get Mister Man back for a little while this week, and after that we get to visit him, and then there’s almost no time at all until he’s done with training. and really, i couldn’t ask for a better daughter to be with during this time. Amelia has been so much fun to be around! we play with play dough, we color, we run around the kitchen table, we take walks around the neighborhood, we watch daniel tiger and thomas the tank engine (SO MUCH thomas), and just generally are silly gals. sure, we have the occasional “disagreement” (we generally disagree only on things like bathtime and bedtime), but for the most part she is a bright light in my days.

so basically, we can hack a few more weeks of this. i’m just going to need to stock up on more coffee!

p.s. i may not be around the blog too much lately, but i’m most definitely hanging out on snapchat…so is Amelia. come hang with us if you miss us! (username: hooleywithaz)

oh hey blog hiatus.

well hello there everybody. i’m back! did you miss me? did you even notice i was gone? actually, don’t answer that, i’ll just pretend that you did miss me and have been waiting on the edge of your seat until i came back.

[hoping that drinking more of these will give me more energy]

i’m home “babysitting” amelia today. i’m usually at work on wednesdays, but our usual babysitter (my lovely mother-in-law) is enjoying two weeks in hawaii and i couldn’t find a backup for today. so i got to take an extra day to hang with my sweetie. and you know what? it’s been unexpectedly awesome. we went to choo choo bob’s for the first time, because miss amelia is having a train moment right now. for those of you not in the know, choo-choo bob’s is a darling little train shop in st. paul. it has toys and trains and even shows with choo-choo bob himself. they also have about 10 train tables that kids can play with, so people just go there to visit and play like a park. you don’t even have to buy anything to come in and let your little one burn of some steam with some steam engines. (and no, this post is not sponsored by choo choo bob, i just had no idea how amazing it was until today. we will most definitely be going back.)

after the train store, we went to my work (of all places) to have a lunch date with my girlfriends. most of us started on the same team in our division and became really close, and now that we work in different departments, we have a weekly wednesday lunch date. i decided to bring amelia with today because they haven’t seen her in a really long time. you guys, i think my favorite thing is bringing amelia to places where there are lots of people around. she is a true extrovert. she waves hi and bye to everyone she sees; there are even some lucky ones who are blown goodbye kisses. and she can keep up with the adult conversations better than some adults i know. we got the biggest kick out of her today.

she’s napping now, although i’m not sure how she’s sleeping through the chainsaws RIGHT OUTSIDE HER WINDOW. i guess i don’t really care how she’s doing it, as long as she keeps doing it. naptime is sacred and i love it with all my being.

[we’ve been going outside a lot…this girl loves being outdoors]

we’re surviving our time without Mister Man, although we miss him like crazy and can’t wait to see him for 48 hours this weekend. if you ask amelia where daddy is, she says, “working’!” she must think that work is the worst if it keeps you away from home for so long. she loves to facetime with him while we’re having breakfast and dinner, she pretends to feed him through the phone. she also loves to hang up on him, but that’s probably just a sign of love too.

i’m doing better than i thought i would be. the days are flying by, and i keep reminding myself that people do this for much longer, which helps curb my pity party. but you guys, i am SO TIRED ALL THE TIME. it’s about all i can do to keep up with cleaning the kitchen and doing dishes before getting ready for bed and just zoning after i put amelia down for bed. we’re talking 9pm people. that’s my limit these days. which explains my absence here a bit. any extra energy i have is spent doing laundry or planning meals for the two of us, and there hasn’t been anything left for everything with love. it always makes me a little nervous when i’m gone from here for a while. i feel like i’m losing momentum or people will forget about me or something. but then i realize that this place is not my job (although that’d be cool someday), it’s my outlet. and if i don’t have the energy for my outlet, that’s okay. it’ll be here when i get back.

i’m giving up my editorial calendar for a while. i’m hoping to post a recipe or two, and maybe some other content here and there, but only when i feel like i can hack it. no need to be posting crap just for the sake of having a post, i don’t care what the blogging gurus say. i mean, i wouldn’t be me if i listened to what everybody else said would i?

february goals.

well, here we are, another month gone. another month to plan for. february is my favorite month of the year because it’s my birthday month. although i’m not a big birthday celebration person, it just makes me feel all cozy and happy, so the month doesn’t feel so dreary.

my goals, as usual, are not too lofty, they’re pretty simple. but since this month will be a little different than our lives usually are, i’m just hoping to accomplish a few little things. honestly, if i can get through it without going nuts, i’ll count it a victory. i’m going to have to cut down on my blogging for the next couple months to make sure that i keep all of our lives on a reasonably regular path, but if you want to keep up with me, i’ll be participating far more regularly on the social media channels below AND snapchat (hooleywithaz). my snapchat gets good when i get a little loopy, and it’s bound to be hilarious this month.

first things first: january goals update

  • finish the updates for the first year of amelia’s baby book. oh my gosh. oh my gosh. oh my gosh. it’s a miracle you guys. I FINISHED IT! printed photos and glue and all. i even got a head start on some pieces for year number two. i feel like mother effing martha stewart!
  • continue to workout regularly. i’m so proud of myself for this one you guys. i’ve upped my workouts from two times a week to three times a week and am working on getting them up to four. i also even started to go back to the gym. now, with Mister Man’s travel binge coming up, that may have to go by the wayside a bit, but i’m planning on getting there when i can, and keeping on with the at home workouts.
  • pay it forward. i did manage to do a bit of paying it forward this month. i just realized as i’m typing this out that i feel really kind of uncomfortable saying exactly what i did, because it gives me a “holier than thou” feeling. and i’m not into that. so maybe i’ll save that for another post. i do feel like my post on loss, which made me feel so supported and loved by all of you, did pay it forward in a way. if even one person was able to find some comfort in my words, then it was worth it.
  • do some research into bullet journaling. does saving a post to read later count? no, i did read a few posts on this, but there is one really juicy one that i need to read before i pull the trigger on the bullet journaling. i think i’m most excited to use the journal that i got as a gift from a dear blogging friend, so i’m feeling very pulled in the direction of starting in some form or another.

  • bake some bread. awwww yea, did i bake some bread! why has no one ever told me about bread makers and how amazing they are? you LITERALLY throw ingredients in the bowl, turn it on, and you have a giant, sandwich bread sized loaf three hours laters. i’m in love. i do still want to try the artisan loaves, it’s just that because i tend to get distracted, i feel like the in-between time for resting and rising is going to throw me off. we shall see.

february goals text with flower detail

  • survive. this is pretty much my main, overarching goal for the month. starting on monday, Mister Man is gone for the rest of the month, with the exception of one short weekend. i am so proud of him, and i feel equally sad that he has to be away by himself, so i’m trying to keep the pity party at a minimum. but yea, surviving is going to be key in february.
  • continue to work out regularly. i think this will be key to goal number one. it will be a little more difficult to make the time, but if i give up a tv show i can do it, and it will be worth the sanity.
  • start a bullet journal. i’ll have more time on my own, so in between keeping the house going (pray for no more snow storms for me to shovel), and trying to work out, i’m going to try to be more mindful of spending my time on pursuits that don’t involve any real housewives.
  • cantor in church for the first time. i can’t remember if i’ve said anything about it here, but i started singing in the choir at church this past fall. i’ve sung my whole life, but had let way too much time go by with none of it in my life. i am one of three girls in our twenties, the rest are my parents age or older (mostly older). and i love it. everyone is so sweet, and it’s wonderful to have singing back in my life. i even decided to start cantoring (which is leading the singing during Masses) and will be doing my first Mass this month. wish me luck!
  • cook some new soups! it’s been a hot minute since i’ve cooked anything new, and i’m itching to get back in the kitchen. here’s hoping for some long naps out of miss amelia, because that’s the only time i’ll be able to really focus on this. thank the good lord for my wonderful husband, who is cooking freezer meals for me as we speak.

what are some of your goals this month? do any of them match mine? any tried-and-true tips for accomplishing goals, please share!
