happy groundhog day.
today is groundhog day. the day when little punxsutawney phil* crawls out of his groundhog hole and looks around to see if he can see his shadow. if he does, we should all pour a strong drink and get ready for another six weeks of winter. if he doesn't, we should all pour a strong drink and celebrate that spring is going to be coming early this year. it must have been cloudy in punxsutawney this morning, because apparently old phil had no shadow. woo!i had a little groundhog day happiness of my own over here today. but it involved a hibiscus plant named murphy. this is what murphy used to look like:this is what murphy looks like now:something about our apartment was just not appealing to our hibiscus plant. so it lost lit'rally all its leaves and looked like it was on its last legs. but then a few weeks ago we woke up to this beautiful sight:a bud! murphy is trying to flower again! and then, this morning. oh, glorious sign from the heavens. can i use this as my groundhog day prediction? spring is coming early because my once dead hibiscus plant has produced flowers again?can you tell it's been really cold here the past few days? i would do anything to go outside without my full winter gear on. just for a moment. now just leave me here to stare at this pretty flower and pretend it's summer.*you should really go read that link. there are mountains of hysterical facts, and it's an exceptionally detailed wikipedia entry for a groundhog. i'm just saying, do yourself a favor.
